Keith McCandless, Gründungspartner der Social Invention Group, der zuvor Executive Learning-Initiativen für das Health Forum leitete, und Henri Lipmanowicz, ehemaliger Präsident der Intercontinental Region und Japans von Merck, arbeiten seit 2002 zusammen, um alternative Meeting-Strukturen zu entwickeln, die jeder nutzen kann. Durch ihre Zusammenarbeit haben sie 33 „Mikrostrukturen“ entwickelt, die auf einfachen Regeln basieren, um herkömmliche Besprechungsstrukturen zu ersetzen oder zu ergänzen und die Koordination von Personengruppen zu verbessern. Sie nennen sie Befreiungsstrukturen oder auf Englisch: Liberating Structures. Die Methoden werden auch laufend ergänzt. So waren es 2017 noch 33 Methoden, heute im Jahr 2020 sind es bereits 35.
Man kann sie in Workshops verwenden, aber auch im ganz normalen Arbeitsalltag, z.B. in Meetings. Auch für private Themen sind sie nutzbar, auch wenn das vergleichsweise ungewohnt sein dürfte! Die Methoden sind frei verfügbar und auf einer Website (siehe unten) beschrieben. Die Grundidee aller Methoden ist so einfach wie genial: indem Strukturen geschaffen werden, können Ideen, Herausforderungen und Informationen in Teams geteilt werden. Also zugleich “befreiend” und “strukturierend”.
